Gillibrand: Sell Only 'Made in USA' Wares at National Park Sites
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Only “Made in the U.S.A.” merchandise would be on sale at national park and monument gift shops under legislation introduced by U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
Ms. Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and bill co-sponsor Rep. Steve Israel (D-L.I.) say many of the patriotic items currently being sold — from American flag mugs to Theodore Roosevelt teddy bears — have a “Made in China” sticker or are produced elsewhere outside the U.S.
They note the National Park Service reports one-quarter — $250 million — of its $1 billion annual gross receipts is from merchandise.
